Beautifully striped Quahog shells of purple and white are paired above with a small bundle of sticks and accented with rosecut faceted purple amethyst. Sterling silver body and earwires. The backs are textured with an abstract lighthouse motif.
Native Americans have historically used the quahog shell to make prized wampum beads because of the beautiful shades of purple and white coloring.
I spent hours along the shoreline of the Outer Banks hunting these beautifully colored shells that were tumbled smooth like a different kind of beach glass. After the devastating storms that buffeted the coast between last October 2025 until February 2026, I went back to collect more of these specific shells that used to be so abundant in the sand. They were all but washed away, and I went home with only a handful. They are now a rare and limited resource until the sea decides to present them out on the beach again.
