Beautifully and intricately detailed, this Black Water Siren Studio exclusive represents the Damballah voodoo veve. The veve is hand carved, then cast in solid sterling silver. A ring band is securely soldered on in your requested size, oxidized to bring out the detail, and polished to a high shine. The face of the ring is about 3/4″ wide by 1-1/8″ tall.

Damballah is the Creator of the universe and is viewed as a loving father to the world. His presence brings peace and harmony. Damballah is strongly  linked with the ancestors, and he and his companion Ayida Wedo are the oldest and wisest of the lwa. As a source of life, he is also strongly associated with water and the rain.

Damballah, the Eastern Light (Sun), is the Sky Father who assisted Bondye in creating the world. The sign of Damballah is the twin serpent. He is the first lwa and father to all others, the primordial creator of all life. Damballah, the serpent spirit and “The Great Master”, created the cosmos by using his 7,000 coils to form the stars and the planets in the heavens and to shape the hills and valleys on earth. By shedding the serpent skin, Damballah created all the waters on the earth. He rules the mind, intellect, wisdom, and cosmic equilibrium, and helps sustain the world as the source of all energy and life force. Damballah’s dominion over intellect and wisdom comes from his uniting connection between the past, present, and future. Because of this role he is often associated with the ancestors.

Damballah, the patriarchal serpent divinity, is an ancient water spirit associated with rain, wisdom, and fertility. Damballah is usually entwined with his wife Ayida Wedo, the rainbow. Damballah is often represented as St. Patrick (who mastered the serpents of Ireland), and sometimes as the patriarchal Moses holding the Ten Commandments. In many temples, a permanent basin of water is maintained for the lwa. Many representations include Damballah’s main sacrificial food—an egg, the symbol of fertility and life.
