Ayizan is the most ancient lwa, one of the most important spirits in Voodoo and also the first Mambo high priestess. She protects the markets, public places, doors, and barriers, and has a deep knowledge of the intricacies of the spirit world.

Beautifully and intricately detailed, this Black Water Siren Studio exclusive is an accurate representation of the Ayizan Velekete voodoo veve, completely hand carved, then cast in a solid metal of your choice, oxidized to bring out the detail, and polished to a high shine. It is detailed on both sides, and will look great no matter which way it is worn. Durable and hefty, a little over 1/16" or 2mm thick, this is an enduring piece of art that will stand the test of time and become a family heirloom for generations.

Comes with a sturdy jump ring bail to wear on a chain or add to a charm bracelet. This does not include a chain. Please check the accessories collection if you would like a chain to go with it.

Charm itself measures 1" wide by  1-1/4" long, or 1-7/16" tall with bail ring. A little over 1/16" or 2mm thick.

Ayizan Velekete protects the markets, public places, doors, and barriers, and has a deep knowledge of the intricacies of the spirit world. She imparts the psychic security for power and health. She is the patroness of the initiation into Voodoo with her husband Loko, who is one of the major healers. Ayizan purifies initiates against malevolent magic. Her name, Ayizan Velekete, means "very well chosen friend of the earth". Ayizan is the most ancient lwa, one of the most important spirits in Voodoo and also the first Mambo high priestess.

She is seen as a very old market woman wearing a white dress with very large pockets. Ayizan is symbolized by mounds of earth sprinkled with oil and surrounded by fringe of palm. Her emblem is the royal palm frond, which is a symbol of purity, clearness of mission, and focus of devotion. Ayzian’s veve is comprised of her initials, the “A” and the “V” intersecting across each other, with a palm frond depicted in the center.

Ayizan, with her husband Loko, guards religious traditions, initiation, and healing powers. She is also the priestess for the revering of parents and ancestor worship. Ayizan is the lwa of commerce and trade, and of initiation into the sacred truths. She punishes adults who take advantage of the young; the rich of the poor; the strong of the weak, and the husband of the wife. Ayizan is a root lwa, bringing the mysteries of life and death to us here in the Marketplace. The Yoruba tradition refers to the earthly plane as the Marketplace, so it is fitting that Ayizan is the one who traverses this realm, bringing forth new life and new initiates.

Ayizan is depicted as St Claire.
